Four Reasons Why Pre-Owned Cars Are Still A Great Choice

Posted on: 20 May 2019

With manufacturers throwing nearly endless numbers of leasing and financing incentives at potential car buyers, it can feel as though buying new is always the right option. While there are certainly perfectly valid reasons to buy new instead of used, pre-owned vehicles still offer unmatched value and choice. If you are in the market to replace your current car or buy a second car, it is worthwhile to tune out the endless new car ads and seriously consider a used vehicle. There are a nearly endless number of reasons why buying pre-owned will save you money and let you get your hands on a better car, but here are just four.

Newer Models Aren't Always Better

It's easy to get swept up in the hype surrounding something new, but new doesn't necessarily always mean better. This can be especially true if you are focused on the driving dynamics of your car, as modern cars are now adding a plethora of electronic components and assistance devices which often place themselves between the driver and the driving experience. Manufacturers sometimes hit it out of the park with a particular generation of vehicle as well, and often it can be difficult to follow up these rock star models with something as good or better. If you spend some time researching a model of vehicle that you are particularly interested in, you may find that its best years are behind it.

You Don't Want to Pay for Gadgets

Modern cars are equipped with all kinds of impressive technology which can be fantastic if you use it, but nothing more than a useless expense if you don't. If you aren't interested in modern infotainment systems or phone integration apps such as Apple CarPlay or Android Auto then brand new cars may not have much to offer you. In many cases, newer models of a car within a generation or even entirely new generations do little to differentiate their driving experience from older models. Instead, they add additional features and gadgets. If these options don't interest you, then it makes little sense to purchase a brand-new vehicle.

Modern Cars Are Durable

There was a time when 100,000 miles was considered a major milestone, but modern engines and transmissions are barely being broken at this mileage. In fact, it is even possible for a well maintained vehicle with over 400,000 miles on the odometer to make nearly as much power as it did when new. This sea change in the long-term reliability of vehicles is obvious in used vehicle prices, which no longer take the major hit that they once did when crossing that magical 100,000-mile mark. While maintenance is still important, you can expect a vehicle with a solid service history and a few miles under its belt to last you for a long time.

The Worst Is Likely Behind It

If you are buying a car with 60,000 miles or more, then it is likely that any serious problems or defects have already been fixed under warranty. While these fixes would not have cost the original owner anything, they would have required them to deal with the time and hassle of taking the car to the dealership and waiting for a fix. Buying pre-owned allows you to sidestep many of these problems and buy a car that has already experienced its teething phase. Come to a pre-owned vehicle dealer in your area.
